New winners

Alabama Express – Yulong’s first-season sire Alabama Express (Redoute’s Choice) sired his inaugural winner from his first runner when Karavas (2 f ex All Of Me by Pierro) landed the $50,000 Moorundi Classic Maiden Plate (900m) at Murray Bridge. Karavas was a $260,000 purchase at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale Showcase Session from the Yulong draft. She is the first winner out of the winning Pierro (Lonhro) mare All Of Me, a half-sister to Group winners Star of Giselle (Reset) and Solicit (Street Cry) from stakes winner Princesa (Danehill), a daughter of Group 1 winner Kapchat (Centaine). Alabama Express is standing at Yulong for a fee of $22,000 (inc GST).

Calyx – Golden Strike (2 c ex Hot Legs by Galileo) became the 17th individual winner from the first crop of Coolmore’s Calyx (Kingman) when he took out a maiden over six furlongs at Ayr. Calyx, who has now had 45 starters, shuttled to Coolmore Australia for two seasons, but did not return in 2022. He stood the 2023 northern hemisphere breeding season at the operation’s Irish base for a fee of €10,000 (approx. AU$16,600).

Magna Grecia – Former Coolmore Stud shuttler Magna Grecia (Invincible Spirit) scored his eighth individual winner when Neapolitan (2 c ex Silver Meadow by Teofilo) landed a maiden over six furlongs at Kempton. A €120,000 buy at the Arqana October Yearling Sale last year, the colt is out of stakes-placed Teofilo (Galileo) mare Silver Meadow, herself a half-sister to stakes-placed gelding Toofi (Henrythenavigator). Thekingofmyheart (2 c ex Scealai Aonair by Fastnet Rock) became the ninth individual winner for Magna Grecia (Invincible Spirit), when landing a maiden at Dortmund. Thekingofmyheart is the only foal to race out of the winning Fastnet Rock (Danehill) mare Scealai Aonair. Magna Grecia, who has now had 46 starters, shuttled to Jerrys Plains Farm for three seasons from 2020-2022, but has not returned for this year’s southern hemisphere breeding season. He stood the northern hemisphere breeding season at Coolmore’s Irish base for a fee of €15,000 (approx. AU$24,910).

Super Seth – Poetic Champion (2 g ex Regally Blonde by Royal Academy) became the first winner from four runners for Waikato Stud’s first-season sire Super Seth (Dundeel) when easily winning a 950-metre maiden at Hawera. Out of the winning Royal Academy (Nijinksy)mare Regally Blonde, Poetic Champion is a half-brother to the stakes-placed winner Zaakhira (Redoute’s Choice) as well as fellow winners Bobby Dazzler (Choisir) and Northuldra (Choisir). Super Seth is standing for a fee of NZ$35,000 (plus GST).

New Group / Grade 1 winners

Candy Ride – Candied (2 f ex Toni Tools by Roaring Fever) landed the Alcibiades Stakes (Gr 1, 8.5f) at Keeneland and in the process became the 19th top-flight winner and 115th overall stakes winner for Lane’s End Farm’s Candy Ride (Ride The Rails). Purchased for US$165,000 at the 2022 Fasig Tipton July Select, Candied is out of Listed winner Toni Tools (Roaring Fever). Candy Ride, who has now had 1,326 starters, stood the 2023 northern hemisphere breeding season for a fee of US$75,000 (approx. AU$117,500). 

Good Magic – In winning Saturday’s American Pharoah Stakes (Gr 1, 8.5f) at Santa Anita, Muth (2 c ex Hoppa by Uncle Mo) became the third Grade 1 winner for Hill ‘N’ Dale Farms-based sire Good Magic (Curlin). Muth topped this year’s Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s March Sale Of Two-Year-Olds In Training when he sold for US$2 million, having been originally bought for US$190,000 at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale in 2022. Good Magic, who has now had 141 starters, stood the 2023 northern hemisphere breeding season for a fee of US$50,000 (approx. AU$78,300).

Gun Runner – Three Chimneys-based sire Gun Runner (Candy Ride) sired a seventh individual elite-level winner to his haul when Locked (2 c ex Luna Rosa by Malibu Moon) took out the Breeders’ Futurity (Gr 1, 8.5f) at Keeneland. Purchased for US$425,000 at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale in 2022, the colt is out of winning mare Luna Rosa (Malibu Moon). Luna Rose herself is a daughter of Gabriellina Giof (Ashkalani), making her a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Gabby’s Golden Gal (Medaglia D’Oro) and three-time Grade 2 scorer Always A Princess (Leroidesanimaux). Gun Runner, who has now had 222 starters, stood the 2023 northern hemisphere breeding season for a private fee.

Into Mischief – Timberlake (2 c ex Pin Up by Lookin At Lucky) took out the Champagne Stakes (Gr 1, 8f) at Belmont At The Big A on Saturday to become the 18th top-flight winner for Spendthrift Farm-based sire Into Mischief (Harlan’s Holiday). Timberlake was bought for $350,000 at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale in 2022. The colt is out of stakes-placed Pin Up (Lookin At Lucky), a half-sister to Group 2 winner Thomas Chippendale (Dansili). Into Mischief, who has now had 1,263 starters, will stand the 2024 northern hemisphere breeding season for a fee of US$250,000 (approx. AU$392,630).

Justify – Coolmore’s US Triple Crown-winning shuttler Justify (Scat Daddy) sired his fourth individual elite-level winner when Just F Y I (2 f ex Star Act by Street Cry) landed the Frizette Stakes (Gr 1, 8f) at Belmont At The Big A. The filly is out of dual-winning stakes-placed mare Star Act (Street Cry), herself a daughter of dual Grade 1 winner Starrer (Dynaformer). Having not shuttled to Coolmore’s Australia base last season, Justify, who has now had 201 starters, is back at Jerrys Plains this year, where he is standing for a fee of $77,000 (inc GST).

New stakes winners

American Pharoah – Riff Rocket (3 g ex Missile Coda by Smart Missile) routed his rivals in the Super Impose Stakes (Listed, 1800m) at Flemington, providing his sire American Pharoah (Pioneerof The Nile) with a 39th individual stakes winner. A homebred for Debbie Kepitis’s Woppitt Bloodstock that was foaled and raised at Coolmore, Riff Rocket is the first winner from two to race out of the winning stakes-placed Smart Missile (Fastnet Rock) mare Missile Coda. American Pharoah was handed his 40th individual stakes winner when Jody’s Pride (2 f ex Jody’s Song by Scat Daddy) scored in the Matron Stakes (Gr 3, 6f) at the Belmont At The Big A meeting. Out of the winning Scat Daddy (Johannesburg) mare Jody’s Song, Jody’s Pride is a half-sister to winner Empathy (Uncle Mo). Former Coolmore shuttler American Pharoah, who has now had 655 starters, stood the 2023 northern hemisphere breeding season at Coolmore’s Ashford Stud base in Kentucky for a fee of US$60,000 (approx. AU$94,010).

Australia – The highly tried Tasmania (3 f ex Tusked Wings by Adlerflug) became the 38th individual stakes winner for Coolmore’s Australia (Galileo) when landing the Prix Charles Laffitte (Listed, 2000m) at Compiegne. Tasmania is the second foal out of German Group 2 winner Tusked Wings (Adlerflug). Australia, who has now had 502 starters, stood the 2023 northern hemisphere breeding season for a fee of €25,000 (approx. AU$41,505).

Birchwood – Woodchuck (3 g ex Reinedetroie by Dunkerque) became the second individual stakes winner for Haras de la Huderie stallion Birchwood (Dark Angel) when he landed the Prix le Fabuleux (Listed, 1800m) at Chantilly. Out of the winning Dunkerque (Highest Honor) mare Reinedetroie, Woodchuck is a brother to winner Lady Valou. Birchwood, who has now had 129 starters, stood the 2023 northern hemisphere breeding season for a fee of €3,500 (approx. AU$5,790).

Blackfriars – Be Optimistic (5 m ex Mekie’s Dream by Pluck) became the 48th individual stakes winner from 897 starters for the late Blackfriars (Danehill) when landing the Kalgoorlie Cup (Listed, 2300m) at Kalgoorlie. Be Optimistic is the only foal to come out of the unraced Pluck (More Than Ready) mare Mekie’s Dream.

Bricks And Mortar – Gonbade Qabus (2 c ex Affilato by Deep Impact) became the first individual stakes winner for Shadai Stallion Station inmate Bricks And Mortar (Giant’s Causeway) when winning the Saudi Arabia Royal Cup (Gr 3, 1600m) at Tokyo. Out of the Group 3-placed winning Deep Impact (Sunday Silence) mare Affilato, Gonbade Qabus is a half-brother to winner Acutus (Rulership). Bricks And Mortar, who has now had 33 starters, stood the 2023 northern hemisphere breeding season for a fee of ¥6,000,000 (approx. AU$62,930).

Calyx – Calyx was handed his second individual stakes winner when Classic Flower (2 f ex Crown Of Flowers by Garswood) scored in the Criterium de Maisons-Laffitte (Gr 2, 1200m) at Chantilly. Classic Flower is the first foal out of the Garswood (Dutch Art) mare Crown Of Flowers, herself a half-sister to Listed winner Bahia Breeze (Mister Baileys).

El Kabeir – Dragon Leader (2 c ex Sweet Dragon Fly by Oasis Dream) provided his sire El Kabeir (Scat Daddy) with a seventh individual stakes winner when scoring in the Two-Year-Old Trophy (Listed, 6f) at Redcar. Dragon Leader is the second foal out of the winning Oasis Dream (Green Desert) mare Sweet Dragon Fly, herself out of the Listed-winning mare Sweet Cecily (Kodiac). El Kabeir, who has now had 156 starters, stood the 2023 northern hemisphere breeding season at Allevamenti della Berardenga for a fee of €6,000 (approx. AU$9,960).

Galileo – Content (2 f ex Mecca’s Angel by Dark Angel) became the 371st individual stakes winner for late Coolmore stalwart Galileo (Sadler’s Wells) when taking out the Staffordstown Stud Stakes (Gr 3, 1m) at the Curragh. A sister to winner Hudson River, Content is the fourth foal out of Mecca’s Angel (Dark Angel), who landed the 2016 Nunthorpe Stakes (Gr 1, 5f). Galileo, who has now had 2,493 starters, died in 2021.

Golden Horn – Tamerlane (6 g ex Wordcraft by Shamardal) provided his sire Golden Horn (Cape Cross) with a 20th individual stakes winner from 298 starters when landing the Paris Lane Stakes (Listed, 1400m) at Flemington. Tamerlane was imported in-utero, with his dam Wordcraft (Shamardal), a two-time winner on the track, in 2017. The daughter of Shamardal (Giant’s Causeway) is the first foal out of Golden Slipper Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m), Queen of the Turf Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m), and Myer Classic (Gr 1, 1600m) winner Forensics (Flying Spur). Golden Horn stood the 2023 northern hemisphere breeding season at Overbury Stud for a fee of £8,000 (approx. AU$15,340).

Good Samaritan – Can Group (2 c ex Blue Gallina by Street Sense) became the sixth individual stakes winner for WinStar Farm stallion Good Samaritan (Harlan’s Holiday) when landing the Bourbon Stakes (Gr 2, 8.5f) at Keeneland. Out of the unraced Street Sense (Street Cry) mare Blue Gallina, Can Group is a half-brother to Grade 3 scorer Flat Out Speed (Flat Out) and the stakes-placed winner Bonnieview (Not This Time). Good Samaritan, who has now had 172 starters, has been confirmed to stand the 2024 northern hemisphere breeding season for a fee of US$5,000 (approx. AU$7,860).

Gun Runner – Chatalas (2 f ex Indian Safari by Indian Charlie) became Gun Runner’s 22nd individual stakes winner when she landed the Chandelier Stakes (Gr 2, 8.5f) at Santa Anita. The filly is out of winning mare Indian Safari (Indian Charlie), who has produced four other winners.

Harry Angel – Vicious Harry (3 c ex Umneeyatee by Encosta De Lago) provided Darley shuttler Harry Angel (Dark Angel) with his ninth individual stakes winner when landing the Prix de Bonneval (Listed, 1100m) at Chantilly. Vicious Harry is the sixth foal out of the winning Encosta De Lago (Fairy King) mare Umneeyatee, herself a half-sister to South African Grade 1 winner Amanee (Pivotal). Harry Angel, who has now had 157 starters, stands at Kelvinside for a fee of $33,000 (inc GST).

Holy Roman Emperor – In winning the Preis des Winterfavoriten (Gr 3, 1600m) at Cologne, Geography (2 c ex Guajara by Montjeu) became the 99th individual stakes winner for Coolmore resident Holy Roman Emperor (Danehill). Bought for €95,000 at the Baden-Baden Premier Yearling Sales in 2022, Geography is out of Italian Listed winner Guajara (Montjeu), who is also the dam of stakes-placed gelding Groundbreaker (Oasis Dream). Holy Roman Emperor, who has now had 1,743 starters, stands at Coolmore’s Castlehyde base where his fee in 2023 was advertised as €10,000 (approx. AU$16,600).

I Am Invincible – Bodyguard (2 c ex Tumooh by Fastnet Rock) became the 99th individual stakes winner for Yarraman Park’s champion sire I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit) when scoring in the Maribyrnong Trial Stakes (Listed, 1000m) at Flemington. A $1.6 million buy for the James Harron Bloodstock Colt Partnership out of the Emirates Park draft at this year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Bodyguard is the first foal of Tumooh (Fastnet Rock), an unraced half-sister to Group 3 winner Dajraan (Frankel). Tumooh and Dajraan are both out of 2014 Golden Slipper Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) winner Mossfun (Mossman). I Am Invincible brought up his century of individual stakes winners when Jack The Lad (6 g ex Luluoru by Redoute’s Choice) landed the Murray Bridge Gold Cup (Listed, 1600m). The gelding is the only foal to race out of the unraced Redoute’s Choice (Danehill) mare Luluora. I Am Invincible, who has had 1,064 starters, is standing for a fee of $302,500 (inc GST).

Into Mischief – Into Mischief took his haul of stakes winners  to 136 when Three Witches (3 f ex Layreebelle by Tale Of The Cat) landed the Princess Rooney Invitational Stakes (Gr 3, 7f) at Gulfstream Park. Three Witches, who was bought for US$350,000 at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale in 2022, is out of Layreebelle (Tale Of The Cat),making her a half-sister to Grade 2 winner Spellbound (Bernardini) and dual Grade 3 scorer Kid Cruz (Lemon Drop Kid).

Justify – Justify (Scat Daddy) chalked up his 19th individual stakes winner when Hard To Justify (2 f ex Instant Reflex by Quality Road) retained her unbeaten record in the Miss Grillo Stakes (Gr 2, 8.5f) at Belmont At The Big A. Purchased for US$190,000 at last year’s Keeneland September Yearling Sale, Hard To Justify is out of Grade 3-placed mare Instant Reflex (Quality Road), herself a half-sister to fellow Grade 3-placed duo Before You Know It (Hard Spun) and Tarantino (Pioneerof The Nile). Justify (Scat Daddy) earned his 20th individual stakes winner when Buchu (2 f ex Flowering Peach by Galileo) took out the Jessamine Stakes (Gr 2, 8.5f) at Keeneland. The filly is out of the dual-winner Flowering Peach (Galileo), herself a daughter of US Grade 3 winner Naples Bay (Giant’s Causeway), who is also the dam of French Group 3 scorer First Minister (Galileo).

Kingman – Godolphin homebred Zardozi (3 f ex Chanderi by Dubawi) became the 72nd individual stakes winner for Juddmonte Farm’s stallion Kingman (Invincible Spirit) when landing the Edward Manifold Stakes (Gr 2, 1600m) at Flemington. Zardozi is the first foal out of the unraced Dubawi (Dubai Millennium) mare Chanderi, a 1.3 million guineas purchase for Godolphin from the Highclere Stud draft at the 2017 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale. Kingman continued his purple patch of form when his daughter Cell Sa Beela (3 f ex Sellsabeel by Galileo) provided the stallion with his 73rd individual stakes winner when she landed the October Stakes (Listed, 7f) at Ascot. Cell Sa Beela is out of a unraced Galileo mare Sellsabeel, herself a half-sister to multiple Group 1 winner Alpha Centauri (Mastercraftsman) and fellow elite-level winners Alpine Star (Sea The Moon) and Discoveries (Mastercraftsman). Kingman is available to cover on southern hemisphere time at a fee of £40,000 (approx. AU$76,800).

Kodiac – Pipsy (2 f ex Experte by High Chaparral) took out the Legacy Stakes (Listed, 5f) at Dundalk and in the process became individual stakes winner number 92 for Tally-Ho Stud resident Kodiac (Danehill). Pipsy is out of the unraced High Chaparral (Sadler’s Wells) mare Experte, who is herself a half-sister to French Group 2 winner Ziyad (Rock Of Gibraltar). Kodiac, who has now had 1,593 starters, stood the 2023 northern hemisphere breeding season at a fee of €40,000 (approx. AU$66,400).

Magnus – Magnificent Andy (5 g ex Yaloginda by Trade Fair) provided his late sire Magnus (Flying Spur) with a 28th individual stakes winner from 728 starters when landing the Hannans Handicap (Listed, 1400m) at Kalgoorlie. Magnificent Andy is the only winning foal out of the Group 3-placed winning Trade Fair (Zafonic) mare Yaloginda.

Make Believe – Sajir (2 c ex Simple Magic by Invincible Spirit) provided his sire Make Believe (Makfi) with his eighth individual stakes winner when landing the Prix Saraca (Listed, 1400m) at Chantilly. The fifth foal out of the Group-placed winning Invincible Spirit (Green Desert) mare Simple Magic, herself a sister to Listed scorers Arctic Gyr and Festivale, Sajir is a half-brother to winner First Kingdom (Frankel). Make Believe, who has now had 214 starters, stood the 2023 northern hemisphere breeding season at Ballylinch Stud for a fee of €10,000 (approx. AU$16,610).

Mineshaft – Lane’s End resident Mineshaft (A.P. Indy) chalked up his 61st individual stakes winner courtesy of Hoist The Gold’s (4 c ex Tacit Approval by Tapit) win in the Ogden Phoenix Stakes (Gr 2, 6f) at Keeneland. Hoist The Gold is out of dual winner Tacit Approval (Tapit), herself a daughter of stakes winner Punch Appeal (Successful Appeal). Mineshaft, who has now had 964 starters, stood the 2023 northern hemisphere breeding season for a fee of US$10,000 (approx. AU$15,600).

New Bay – Ballylinch Stud-based sire New Bay (Dubawi) chalked up his 13th individual stakes winner when Vafortino (5 g ex Arbaah by Invasor) landed the Guisborough Stakes (Listed, 7f) at Redcar. The five-year-old gelding is out of Arbaah (Invasor), herself a half-sister to Grade 3 scorer Farhaan (Jazil) and Listed winner Haatheq (Seeking The Gold). New Bay, who has now had 964 starters, is available to cover mares on southern hemisphere time, where his fee is set at €40,000 (approx. AU$66,410).

No Nay Never – Coolmore Stud sire No Nay Never (Scat Daddy) registered his 57th individual stakes winner when Mountain Bear (2 c ex Holy Alliance by Holy Roman Emperor) took out the Star Appeal Stakes (Listed, 7f) at Dundalk. Mountain Bear is out of Holy Alliance (Holy Roman Emperor), a sister to Group 3 winner and Group 1-placed Ishvana. During the 2023 breeding season, No Nay Never, who has now had 696 starters, commanded a fee of €175,000 (approx. AU$290,600).

Quality Road – In winning the Pilgrim Stakes (Gr 2, 8.5f) at Belmont At The Big A, Agate Road (2 c ex Yellow Agate by Gemologist) became the 78th individual stakes winner for Lane’s End Farm’s leading sire Quality Road (Elusive Quality). Agate Road was bought for US$650,000 at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale in 2022. The colt is out of Grade 1 winner Yellow Agate (Gemologist) and hails from the same family as Italian Group 3 winner Without Connexion (Rainbow Quest). Quality Road, who has now had 752 starters, stood the 2023 breeding season for a fee of US$200,000 (approx. AU$315,700).

Roaring Lion – Middle Earth (3 c ex Roheryn by Galileo) won the Noel Murless Stakes (Listed, 1m 6f) at Ascot, becoming the fourth individual stakes winner for the late Roaring Lion (Kitten’s Joy). The fourth foal out of the Listed winner Roheryn (Galileo), Middle Earth is a half-brother to, among others, dual Listed winner Buckeroo (Fastnet Rock). Roaring Lion has now had 85 starters.

Rock Of Gibraltar – Late Coolmore Stud resident Rock Of Gibraltar (Danehill) scored his 141st individual stakes winner when Rock Joyeux (5 g ex Joiedargent by Kendargent) took out the Grand Prix des Provinces (Listed, 2400m) at Lyon Parilly. Rock Joyeux is out of Listed-placed mare Joiedargent, who is herself a half-sister to Lettre De Chateau (Literato). Rock Of Gibraltar, who died last year, has now had 2,196 starters.

Saxon Warrior – Sans Voix (2 f ex Blarney Stone by Peintre Celebre) became the eighth individual stakes winner for former Coolmore Stud shuttler Saxon Warrior (Deep Impact) when landing the Grand Criterium de Bordeaux (Listed, 1600m). Sans Voix is out of the winner Blarney Stone (Peintre Celebre) who herself is a half-sister to French 1,000 Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) winner Beauty Parlour (Deep Impact). Saxon Warrior, who has now had 159 starters, stood the 2023 northern hemisphere breeding season at Coolmore in Ireland for a fee of €35,000 (approx. AU$58,095).

Sea The Stars – Gilltown Stud resident Sea The Stars (Cape Cross) was handed his 114th individual stakes winner when Rainbow Sky (3 f ex Best Terms by Exceed And Excel) landed the Prix Panacee (Listed, 2400m) at Toulouse. The filly is the sixth foal out of the dual Group 2-winning Exceed And Excel (Danehill) mare Best Terms, making her a sister to Listed scorer Star Terms and a half-sister to three further winners including another Listed scorer, Fresh Terms (New Approach). Sea The Stars, who has now had 929 starters, stood the 2023 northern hemisphere breeding season for a fee of €180,000 (approx. AU$298,560).

Showcasing – French import Future History (5 g ex Likelihood by Mizzen Mast)  provided Showcasing (Oasis Dream) with his 66th individual stakes winner when landing The Bart Cummings (Gr 3, 2520m) at Flemington. Future History was a 140,000gns purchase from the Juddmonte Farm draft at last year’s Tattersalls Autumn Horses In Training Sale. He is the best of two winners to come out of the winning Mizzen Mast (Cozzene) mare Likelihood, herself a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Seek Again (Speightstown), Group 3 winner Treble Jig (Gone West) and Listed scorer Scottish Jig (Speightstown). Showcasing (Oasis Dream), who has now had 1,227 starters, stood the 2023 northern hemisphere breeding season at Whitsbury Manor Stud for a fee of £45,000 (approx. AU$86,310).

Soldier Hollow- Dishina (4 f ex Dhaba by Areion) provided her sire Soldier Hollow (In The Wings) with a 61st individual stakes winner when scoring in the Premio Elena & Sergio Cumani (Listed, 1600m) at Milan. Dishina is the second foal out of the Group 3-winning mare Dhaba (Areion), making her a sister to fellow Listed scorer Dibujaba. Soldier Hollow has now had 522 starters.

Starspangledbanner – Coolmore Stud shuttler Starspangledbanner (Choisir) sired his 35th individual stakes winner when his daughter Aussie Girl (3 f ex Ravissante by Galileo) landed the Pastures Stakes (Listed, 6f) at the Curragh. Purchased for €35,000 from the Goffs Orby Yearling Sale in 2021, the filly is out of the winning Galileo mare Ravissante. Ravissante is herself a daughter of Group 3 winner Stunning (Nureyev). Starspangledbanner, who has now had 617 starters, is standing at Coolmore Stud in the Hunter Valley for a fee of $33,000 (inc GST).

Tavistock –  Life Lessons (5 m ex Brockman’s Lass by Encosta De Lago) provided her late sire Tavistock (Montjeu) with a 45th individual stakes winner from 742 starters, when scoring in the Rose Of Kingston Stakes (Gr 2, 1400m) at Flemington.
