General Salute (AUS)

TRAINER: Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou

RACE: San Domenico Stakes (Gr 3, 1100m)

Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou have handed their promising colt General Salute (Russian Revolution) an early season chance to prove himself in stakes company as he tackles today’s San Domenico Stakes (Gr 3, 1100m) at Rosehill.

Having made a promising debut when third over today’s course and distance on January 14, the son of Russian Revolution (Snitzel) was then spelled before reappearing with an impressive success in a 1200-metre maiden at Warwick Farm on April 19, defeating subsequent stakes performer Influential (The Autumn Sun) by one and three-quarter lengths.

“He’s a horse with a nice future and you could see in that last 100 metres when he started to knuckle down and gather himself he was able to extend away from them,” Alexiou said after that maiden victory.

Stakes grade was then suggested for the colt following that effort, and General Salute will tackle the likes of unbeaten stakes-winning filly Libertad (Russian Revolution), Golden Gift (1100m) and Blue Diamond Prelude (C&G) (Gr 3, 1100m) hero Barber (Exceed And Excel), as well as last-start The Rosebud (Listed, 1100m) runner-up Introducing (Trapeze Artist) in today’s event.

Retained to race by his breeder, General Salute is a three-quarter brother to 2021 ATC Villiers Stakes (Gr 2, 1600m) winner Brutality (Shamus Award), being the fourth winner from four foals to race out of the stakes-placed General Nediym (Nediym) mare Star Salute.
