Golden graduates boost profile of March Yearling Sale

After some of its graduates blazed a trail through the Queensland Summer Carnival, buyers can now begin the search for the sunshine state’s next star following the release of the 2025 Magic Millions Gold Coast March Yearling Sale.

Offering more buyer incentives than any other sale of its type, the March Yearling Sale will feature 380 lots by 73 individual sires across two days of buying at the Bundall complex, starting on Monday, March 10.

A total of 14 stallions are presenting their first Australian crops, with stakes winners Barbaric (I Am Invincible) and Jonker (Spirit Of Boom) leading the way with 27 lots apiece. Of the more established sires, Queensland’s leading stallions Better Than Ready (More Than Ready) and Spirit Of Boom (Sequalo) are both well represented with 55 yearlings between them.

Spirit Of Boom and his speedy son Jonker were both guided to Group 1 glory by Tony Gollan, and Queensland’s leading trainer was again prominent through the summer months with Hidden Wealth (Better Than Ready) – a $110,000 Magic Millions Gold Coast March Yearling Sale purchase – taking his earnings to the brink of $1.5 million after winning both the George Moore Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m) and the Magic Millions QTIS Open (1300m).

Other beneficiaries of the extraordinary prizemoney on offer across the ten races on Gold Coast Magic Millions Raceday were Lee Freedman’s Encoder (Encryption) and Liam Birchley’s Amosu (Invader), the respective winners of the Subzero (2200m) and the The Debut 2YO Plate (1000m) who were purchased at this sale for a combined $100,000.

“The Gold Coast March Yearling Sale provides buyers with incredible incentives alongside quality yearlings,” said Magic Millions managing director Barry Bowditch.

“Season after season, graduates of the sale star for their connections around the state, country and abroad – from the likes of Buffering, Apache Chase and Spirit Of Boom to recent million-dollar race winners Encoder and Hidden Wealth, and Magic Millions Debut winner Amosu.”

Every yearling going through the ring will be eligible for the Magic Millions Race Series, which is worth in excess of $20 million in prizemoney and bonuses.

In addition, the entire catalogue has been nominated for the lucrative QTIS program (either fully paid or at least first payment), and therefore eligible to compete for more than $13 million in QTIS bonuses as well as in exclusive races like the $1.5 million Magic Millions QTIS Open (1300m) and the $500,000 QTIS Jewels (1200m) for two and three-year-olds.

Buyers at the Gold Coast in March will also benefit from a reduced Magic Millions Race Series Nomination fee of just $4,752, which represents a 28 per cent reduction on the price paid at other sales.
