Inglis to hold two-day Australian Weanling Sale in May

The Inglis Australian Weanling Sale will be extended to two days after the company catalogued 415 yearlings for the May 4 and 5 Riverside Stables auction, the largest offering of foals in Sydney since 2010.

Officially launched last night, the Australian Weanling Sale catalogue includes weanlings by 94 different sires including Zoustar (Northern Meteor), Pierro (Lonhro), Russian Revolution (Snitzel), Fastnet Rock (Danehill), So You Think (High Chaparral), Capitalist (Written Tycoon), Deep Field (Northern Meteor), Lonhro (Octagonal), Street Boss (Street Cry) and Toronado (High Chaparral).

First season weanlings by Exceedance (Exceed And Excel), Yes Yes Yes (Rubick), Too Darn Hot (Dubawi), Brutal (O’Reilly), Blue Point (Shamardal), Pierata (Pierro), Microphone (Exceedance), Alabama Express (Redoute’s Choice), Castelvecchio (Dundeel) and a host of other new sires are also listed.

Inglis Bloodstock chief executive Sebastian Hutch said the increased size of the catalogue was due to recognition by vendors and breeders about the sale’s importance and the buying bench it attracts.

He expects strong competition again this year from owners and trainers as well as a buoyant pinhooking segment which last year was able to turn $65,000 into $270,000, $180,000 into $375,000, $30,000 into $210,000, $42,000 into $158,000, $55,000 into $210,000 and $28,000 into $100,000 among many successful examples.

“People will have a very broad range of opportunities across the two days of the sale. With the nature of how people participate in the market, it continues to evolve,” Hutch said yesterday.

“Last year there was evidence of end-users being more involved in the weanling market, which has always been the case, but certainly last year the scale of that involvement increased on the back of the strength of the yearling sales.

“You would have to think that it will be the case again in 2022.”

All weanlings sold at the Australian Weanling Sale are eligible for the $7.55 million Inglis Race Series, which features the $2m Inglis Millennium (RL, 1200m) for two-year-olds and the new $1m Pink Bonus Scheme.

Inglis also released the catalogue for the HTBA May Yearling Sale yesterday, one which comprises 287 yearlings by stallions such as Extreme Choice (Not A Single Doubt), Capitalist (Written Tycoon), Russian Revolution (Snitzel), So You Think (High Chaparral) and Shamus Award (Snitzel).

The May Yearling Sale, the precursor to the weanling sale, the Chairman’s Sale and Australian Broodmare Sale, will be held on Sunday, May 1.

“This sale continues to provide quality racehorses. In recent renewals alone the likes of Rocketing By and The Bopper and Monegal and Through The Cracks etc have all been offered at the HTBA May Sale and I’ve no doubt there will be many more like them come out of this year’s sale,’’ Hutch said.

“There are several yearlings in the catalogue that were headed for either Classic or Premier etc that had minor setbacks at the time and the vendors decided to give them the necessary time to recover and they will be presented in outstanding fashion at his sale, so I urge all serious buyers to inspect this catalogue very closely.

“Certainly the fact that there are eight Russian Revolution yearlings and two Extreme Choice yearlings alone is a reason for anyone in the market for a good yearling to attend the sale.”
