Maiden Of The Week

Kiwia (AUS)

B: Limerick Lane Thoroughbreds
T: Darren Weir
W: Optus Shop Warrnambool Maiden Plate, 1400m, Warrnambool, 3 May

Kiwia was impressive winning here on debut. He broke well from barrier six under John Allen and settled well, back in second last place in the seven-horse field, tracking a good tempo. He made his move at the 600 metre mark, took the lead when the field straightened up and then raced powerfully away in the Heavy 8 conditions to score to a three and three quarter length victory in a time of 1:28.82.

The son of Rest (Zabeel) is the first foal out of the unraced Danehill Dancer (Danehill) mare Single View, her second foal is an unraced two-year-old by Bel Esprit (Royal Academy) called York. Single View herself is out of the Listed-winning mare Firenza (Kenny’s Best Pal) and is a sister to Kiwia’s stablemate Tuscan Sling, who won the 2016 Geoffrey Bellmaine Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m).

Further back the gelding is from the same family as Group Three winners Lite’n In My Veins (Henrythenavigator) and Hi World (High Chaparral), while stakes winner Loveyamadly (Bel Esprit) and Talindert (Listed, 1100m) winner Ducimus (Snitzel) also feature among his relations.

In 2015 Single View foaled a filly by Reset, which was destroyed and in 2016 she slipped in foal to the Swettenham Stud-stallion Americain (Dynaformer) and was most recently served by the operation’s Puissance De Lune (Shamardal).

Reset stands at Darley’s Northwood Park stud for a fee of $16,500 (inc GST) and has sired 31 stakes winners, including five Group One winners.
