Lean Mean Machine colt sets the pace

A colt by Aquis Farm’s first season sire Lean Mean Machine (Zoustar) ran a blistering 10.06 seconds for his breeze-up during the second session at Te Rapa yesterday, to top the standings across the two days of hit-outs for the NZB Ready To Run Sale.

The Ohukia Lodge consigned colt, catalogued as Lot 305, is out of the stakes-placed Snitzel (Redoute’s Choice) mare Thwayya.

Bred by Aquis, the colt was pinhooked by Cornerstone Stud, who purchased him as a weanling for $34,000 before selling him a year later for $80,000 to Upper Bloodstock and Enigma Farm.

Sam Beatson’s Ohukia Lodge will offer the four fastest horses from the breeze-ups, as a colt by champion Hong Kong sire Deep Field (Northern Meteor) (Lot 83) posted a time of 10.07 seconds yesterday to run the second-fastest 200-metre split of the session. He is out of the six-time-winning Commands (Danehill) mare Exotic Escape and was an $80,000 buy for Beatson from the Newgate Farm draft at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.

The pair added to Ohukia Lodge-consigned colts by Pride Of Dubai (Street Cry) (Lot 260) and Russian Revolution (Snitzel) (Lot 318), who ran 10.07 seconds and 10.08 seconds during yesterday’s session.

“I think it has been pretty even for everyone here. We have been very happy with how our draft has breezed up,” said Beatson.

“They all galloped nicely and we’re looking forward to taking them through to the Sale in a month’s time.”

Day two’s breeze-up session saw 129 horses conduct their hit-out on a Soft 5 surface at Te Rapa, the course rated the same as Monday’s session, with the rail moved in by four metres for the second day.

NZB managing director Andrew Seabrook commended the quality of juveniles on offer at this year’s sale following the conclusion of the delayed breeze-up sessions.

“The standard of breeze-ups seen at Te Rapa over the last two days was of an outstanding quality, which is a testament to the effort put in by our expert consignors and preparers,” Seabrook said.

“This would have to be one of the most consistent set of times I have seen in my 30 years of the breeze-ups.

“We would also like to thank Waikato Racing Club for presenting its track to a high standard once again and for accommodating our dates over the last few weeks.

“We had a great attendance of buyers, trainers and agents and are looking forward to seeing the two-year-olds up at Karaka in a month’s time.”

The NZB Ready To Run Sale will be conducted on November 16 and 17 at Karaka.
