Magic Millions releases National Weanling Sale catalogue

A sister to Australian Oaks (Gr 1, 2400m) winner El Patroness (Shamus Award), a three-quarter sister to Santos by I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit), a Stay Inside (Extreme Choice) half-sister to Zousain (Zoustar) and a half-sister to Group 3 winner Jennilala (Shalaa) are among the weanlings to be offered at the Magic Millions National Sale next month.

The auction house on Thursday released a 377-lot weanling catalogue for its Gold Coast sale, the first leg of the foals, race fillies and broodmares and National Yearling Sale in late May and early June.

A List Stud will offer 23 weanlings as part of an unreserved reduction sale while Element Hill will offer 14 foals in an unreserved dispersal sale. Coolmore (24), Amarina Farm (20), Newgate Farm (18), Warrandale Stud (18) Bhima Thoroughbreds (16), Yulong (15), Milburn Creek (13), Three Bridges Thoroughbreds (13), Baramul Stud (13) and Fairhill Farm (12) will be well represented on the Gold Coast.

Fifteen first season sires will also have weanlings to go under the hammer including Home Affairs (I Am Invincible) (20), Stay Inside (14), St Mark’s Basilica (Siyouni) (14) and Wild Ruler (Snitzel) (14).

“There are more horses across more levels than any sale of its type,” Magic Millions managing director Barry Bowditch said.
“All buyers will be able to participate on exceptional prospects across all sections of the market.”

Bowditch said more than a quarter of the Book 1-catalogued weanlings were out of stakes-performed or producing mares.

“They are by sires including Frankel, Snitzel, Pierro, The Autumn Sun, Zoustar, Stay Inside, Written Tycoon, So You Think, Toronado, St Mark’s Basilica, I Am Invincible, Exceed and Excel, Extreme Choice, Capitalist, Home Affairs and Farnan,” he said.

“We are incredibly proud of the success of graduates of the sale – from current Group 1 stars like Tropical Squall and Veight to world class stallions Stay Inside, Pierro and Zoustar.

“Whether prospective buyers are seeking a future star of the sales ring as a yearling or a life changing galloper on the track this is the sale that delivers more success.”

Group-winning mares with progeny catalogued include Amicus (Fastnet Rock), Miss Mossman (Mossman), Amelia’s Dream (Redoute’s Choice), I’ll Have A Bit (Smart Missile), Villa Verde (Not A Single Doubt), Delectation Girl (Delegator), Long Time Ago (Redoute’s Choice), Shazee Lee (Ready’s Image),Vinicunca (I Am Invincible) and Vulpine (Snitzel).

The weanling sale, which was pushed back to Sunday, May 26 and Monday, May 27, will be preceded by the running of the new $1 million Magic Millions National 2YO Classic (1000m) to be run under lights at the Gold Coast Turf Club on Friday, May 24.

The National Broodmare Sale will be held from May 28 to 30 with June 4 and 5 set aside for the yearling sale. Catalogues for those two sales are expected to be released soon.
