Having his second start after running second on debut over 1411 metres, also at Sale, on 11 September, Positive Carry jumped from barrier four in the 12-horse field under Craig Williams. He was handly early before settling back in seventh place, one off the rails. He began to improve wide out and under riding and on straightening the son of Savabeel (Zabeel) took a while to wind up. He then came with a late run to grab a narrow but good victory looking suited to further.

Positive Carry is out of the winning O’Reilly (Last Tycoon) mare Forty Two Below who won over 1200 metres. She has now produced three winners from as many foals to race including Positive Carry’s Group Three-winning sister Coldplay (Savabeel) whose victories included last year’s Eulogy Stakes (Gr 3, 1600m).

His second dam is the Listed winner Icy Calm (Western Symphony), the dam of eight winners from ten foals to race including Forty Two Below’s Listed winning brother The Big Chill (O’Reilly) who was also placed in the Goodwood Handicap (Gr 1, 1200m) and Manikato Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m).

Forty Two Below has been covered again by Waikato Stud’s Savabeel last year having produced a filly by him last October.
