After finishing no further back than fourth in his first three starts, Chris Waller-trained colt Sambro was smartly away from barrier nine and settled well in third place behind a reasonable tempo before moving up nearing the home turn. He took the lead at the 200 metres and then went on to score by a comfortable length and three quarters in a time of 1:23.95.

Sambro is the third living foal out of the Encosta De Lago (Fairy King) winning mare Eau De Joie, making the colt a three-quarters brother to winners Charlton (Redoute’s Choice) and Eau De Parfum (Redoute’s Choice).

Eau De Joie herself is a half-sister to Golden Slipper (Gr 1, 1200m) winner Polar Success (Success Express), while his third dam produced the dam of dual Group Two winner Bring Me The Maid (Sebring).

Further back the colt is from the same family as Listed winner Ain’t Seen Nothin’ (Nothin’ Leica Dane), the dam of Group Three winner Bachman (All American) and Listed winners Stepitup (Hussonet) and Ain’tnofallenstar (Starcraft).

In 2015 Eau De Joie produced a filly by Redoute’s Choice (Danehill) and was euthanased in September 2016.
