The Michael Freedman-trained filly Seascape (I Am Invincible) produced an impressive display to score on her debut at Gosford on Wednesday.

Jumping from barrier 11 under Tom Marquand in the 1100-metre contest, the daughter of I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit) was allowed to lead throughout and, when asked for an effort by her rider, quickened in decisive fashion to easily beat Mogul Monarch (Capitalist) by 4.8 lengths with a further 0.4 lengths back to The Eyes Have It (Brutal) in third.

Seascape was making her debut following a pair of trials, both at Randwick, the first producing a fifth-placed effort while the most recent saw her run second.

“She surprised me a little bit. She has come on in leaps and bounds throughout the preparation,” stable representative Sophie Johnson said.

Marquand, who picked up the ride on the filly after Jason Collett was injured in a fall at Kembla Grange on Monday, was impressed with the ease of victory.

“She had that awkward barrier and it was always going to be the case that if she jumped well enough go forward, and if she didn’t we’d have been going to plan B and slotting in.

“However, she was fast and natural to it all after her trials and she’s an exciting filly with a lot of gears up her sleeve. She made pretty light work of that.”

A homebred for John Camilleri’s Fairway Thoroughbreds, Seascape is a sister to dual stakes winner Zarastro being out of the Group 2-winning Zabeel (Sir Tristram) mare Adrift, who was bought for $700,000 by Damon Gabbedy of Belmont Bloodstock from the Segenhoe Stud draft at the 2020 Inglis Chairman’s Sale.

Adrift, who was covered by Wootton Bassett (Iffraaj) last spring, is a three-quarter sister to three-time Group 1 winner Maldivian, while also being a half-sister to Karaka Million 2YO (RL, 1200m) winner Xiong Feng (Iffraaj) and to the dam of the Group 1 winner Entriviere (Tavistock).

A brother to Seascape sold through the Segenhoe Stud draft to Kia Ora, TFI, Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, and Kestrel Thoroughbreds for $1.15 million at this week’s Inglis Easter Yearling Sale.
