STUPENDO

(2 c Supido – Bisutti by Northern Meteor)

TRAINER: Danny O’Brien

RACE: Aquis Gold Nugget (1100m)

The final flurry to ensure a spot in next weekend’s $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic (RL, 1200m) arrives today courtesy of the Aquis Gold Pearl (1100m) and its male equivalent, the Aquis Gold Nugget, in which the subject of today’s Spotlight horse competes.

Courtesy of his debut win at Flemington on December 11, the Danny O’Brien-trained Stupendo (Supido) looks to have secured his place in the 16-runner Classic field, currently lying tenth on the order of entry and rated as a $26 chance for the showpiece event with bookmakers.

However, the colt by Widden Stud’s first-season sire Supido (Sebring) could add another timely update to the pedigree page of his yearling half-brother by Trapeze Artist (Snitzel), consigned as Lot 807 within Widden’s draft at next week’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale.

Stupendo, a $120,000 buy from last year’s season-opening sale, is the fifth foal out of Northern Meteor (Encosta De Lago) mare Bisutti, herself a half-sister to Listed winner Pressing (Sebring) and the stakes-placed Virtual Insanity (Sebring).

Bisutti has already produced Adelaide Listed winner Absolute Flirt (Stratum), while this is also the family of New Zealand Group 1 winner Choice Bro (Choisir). She again foaled a colt by Trapeze Artist last year and was covered by Widden’s freshman stallion Russian Camelot (Camelot).

There are 32 yearlings from the first crop of four-time Group 1 winner Trapeze Artist on offer at the Gold Coast next week.
