Godolphin colt Stylised (Kermadec) threw his hat into the ring for some of the top middle-distance contests this spring when scoring a comfortable win in a 1400-metre maiden at Rosehill on Wednesday.
Ridden by James McDonald, the James Cummings-trained three-year-old showed the benefit of a debut fifth placing at Warwick Farm earlier in the month to produce a striking turn of foot down the home straight.
Having taken the lead passing the 200-metre pole, Stylised appeared to improve the further he went to always hold off the late challenge of Iron Man (Exosphere) and win by a length.
The Chris Waller-trained I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit) colt Buillt was a further neck back in third position.
“He’s a big lovely horse. He covers the ground well and he was set up to run very well after a lovely debut,” the winning rider told Sky Racing.
“Zac [Lloyd] who rode him that day gave him a glowing report, so coming into today with a bit more experience under his belt he put on a beautiful performance.
“There’s plenty more left in the tank. He got to the front and was just labouring the whole way. He could’ve gone another furlong and wouldn’t have gotten beat.
“He’s going to excel when running over a bit further and I think we’ll have a lot of fun with him.”
The second foal out of the five-time winning Medaglia D’Oro (El Prado) mare Monogram, Stylised is a half-brother to Queensland Guineas (Gr 2, 1600m) and Tulloch Stakes (Gr 2, 1850m) winner Character (Teofilo), who lines up in the Paris Lane Stakes (Listed, 1400m) at Flemington tomorrow.
After slipping in 2020 and 2021, Monogram foaled a colt by four-time Group 1 winner Ghaiyyath (Dubawi) last month.
Kermadec, who has had 59 winners from 113 starters, stands at Darley’s Northwood Park for $16,500 (inc GST).
