Yeronga Songbird

TRAINER: Peter Moody

RACE: Next Generation Sprinters Series Final (1200m)

Rosemont Stud will be hoping for a promising effort from Yeronga Songbird (I Am Invincible) when she makes her debut in today’s Next Generation Sprinters Series Final (1200m) at Flemington.

Currently rated as a $4 third-in chance in the market, the Peter Moody-trained juvenile filly will carry her breeders’ famous colours in today’s 1200-metre event after she was passed in for $400,000 as a yearling at last year’s Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

“She’s a lovely filly, she’s always shown a fair bit of natural ability, but we’ve just had to be a little bit patient until she was physically mature enough [to race],” Moody’s assistant trainer Katherine Coleman said.

“She’s trialled up really nicely and her work this week has been quite sharp. Flemington looks a nice little debut option for her.

“She’s probably got some more physical maturity to come, so whether she just has the one run for experience and goes out and has a bit of a break and we bring her back for the spring we’ll see, but we’ll just take it run by run.”

Today’s event will see the daughter of I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit) take on stakes performer and winner Extreme Spirit (Extreme Choice) and fellow scorers Mafia (Written Tycoon) and Spring Eagle (Alpine Eagle).

Yeronga Songbird is out of the unraced Bel Esprit (Royal Academy) mare Stylish Bel, making her a half-sister to eight-time Hong Kong Group 1 winner Beauty Generation (Road To Rock) and five-time winner Steel Cutter (Road To Rock).

The filly is not the only runner in the race with an illustrious sibling. Eugenius (Magnus), who returns to competitive action for the first time since finishing down the field at Moe in February, will represent Shane Nichols, who trained the gelding’s brother Streets Of Avalon to score twice at the highest level.
