Zoustar lands stakes treble across standout Saturday
On an afternoon headlined by his T J Smith Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) heroine Joliestar, Widden Stud’s reigning Champion Sire Zoustar (Northern Meteor) landed a remarkable interstate stakes treble on Saturday.
Two of those were new stakes winners for the son of Northern Meteor (Encosta De Lago), the first being unbeaten filly Plaintiff (3 f ex Prompt Response, by Beneteau) who took out the P J Bell Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m) at Randwick.
Trained by Peter Snowden and ridden by Jordan Childs, the filly made it four wins from four starts when she stormed home on the outside to defeat Nepo Baby (Lucky Vega) by a half-length, with Tomato Toastie (Too Darn Hot) a further half length away in third.
Bred by Widden Stud and partners, Plaintiff was purchased for $2.2 million by James Harron Bloodstock at Inglis Easter in 2024 and is the best of three winners from three foals to race out of Tatts Tiara (Gr 1, 1400m) winner Prompt Response (Beneteau).
Prompt Response sadly died last year, adding further significance to the win today, with Plaintiff being her final foal. Still lightly raced, she has shown a sharp turn of foot in each of her victories and shapes as a filly with considerable upside.
The treble was completed by Railway Stakes (Listed, 1100m) winner Zoupurring (6 g ex Tara’s Spur, by Flying Spur), who swiftly brought his sire’s worldwide tally to 79 stakes winners with a maiden black type victory at Oakbank.
Trained by Michael Hickmott and ridden by Teodore Nugent, the ultra-honest gelding held off Great Maximus (Magnus) by a half-length to record the biggest win of his career. Winning Revolution (Winning Rupert) finished another 0.6 lengths back in third.
A $100,000 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale purchase, Zoupurring has now won eight races and over $350,000 in prize money. He is one of six winners from eight foals to race out of the Flying Spur (Danehill) mare Tara’s Spur.
